BRAZIL (2023)

Brazil is where some of the world's most profound plant medicines originate. It is also where the tension between their sacred roots and their global commercialization is most visible.

Molly worked across several regions and communities, from Kaiowa Guarani activists in Mato Grosso do Sul to a shamanic community in Bahia, documenting indigenous life, entheogenic practice, and the increasingly complicated relationship between traditional custodians and the outside world that wants what they hold.

She was invited to participate in ceremonies with Huni Kui communities, where she worked to understand not just the medicines themselves but the ethical and relational frameworks that surround them. Ayahuasca, wachuma, jurema, Sananga, Hapé, Kambo. Each with its own history, its own keepers, and its own set of questions about what it means to share something sacred responsibly.

The reporting from this trip fed directly into her ongoing investigation into the globalization of plant medicine and what indigenous communities stand to gain and lose as that globalization accelerates.
